Being Outlined

Everything in the Army seems to have been written down somewhere. This goes from the way we live our lives to the values which we stand by. This is then supplemented by the way that we want to present ourselves to everyone. Today's Army is one where we strive and expect all soldiers to be their best. Everything that we do, the Army expects nothing less than perfection and that perfection is taught and outlined by different documents. These documents have everything from how your train to how you are to lead others. Everything is outlined because unlike most organizations, the Army is a job where you have your life at stake every time that you go to work. How you do things also has an effect on other people's lives. You are leading people and are therefore responsible for them. Having everything outlined makes sure that you do not forget something and have the best possible preparation for work.
The Army Values
Warrior Ethos
Soldiers Creed
Analysis
Having a big group of people such as this demands for there to be structure so that there is no deviance from the culture that the main effort wants. These previous texts show that there is a requirement for the type of character that the United States Army is looking for and demands for its soldiers.
Besides these there also texts that outline every operation that is carried out or how to do pretty much anything that a soldier may do. There are requirements for how to present things to officers, how to do specific operations tactically, and how to lead others. These texts are called FMs. You can look at these just by searching the internet nowadays but also you can look at these in handbooks that are given to each soldier. Knowing all of these is required by the soldiers especially officers in the Army.
Having everything outlined makes there no room for interpretation because incorrect interpretation could lead to death in combat. The Army wants their officers to represent a certain set of values, and Purdue is sure to teach their cadets all of these so that we are successful as officers once we commission. As time rolls on, Purdue is developing its cadets more and more into better ones and teaching us how to apply it once we are outside of the military. We can use our communication skills in the real world when we get jobs and use our skills as leaders to be the best asset to any company or group.
A lot of people who are not apart of this organization at Purdue do not get the chance to learn these skills. We are learning the things that apply directly to our job but also using this chance to develop ourselves for our career.
The Army Values
- Loyalty
- Duty
- Respect
- Selfless Service
- Honor
- Integrity
- Personal Courage
Warrior Ethos
- I will always place the mission first
- I will never accept defeat
- I will never quit
- I will never leave a fallen comrade
Soldiers Creed
- I am an American Soldier. I am a warrior and a member of a team. I serve the people of the United States, and live the Army Values. I will always place the mission first. I will never accept defeat. I will never quit. I will never leave a fallen comrade. I am disciplined, physically and mentally tough, trained and proficient in my warrior tasks and drills. I will always maintain my arms, my equipment and myself. I am and expert and I am a professional. I stand ready to deploy, engage, and destroy the enemies of the United States of America in close combat. I am a guardian of freedom and the American way of life. I am an American Soldier.
